Douglass & Lincoln is coming

To commemorate the August 1864 meeting at the White House between Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln, Proofmark Cinema will be shooting a one-man-theatre version of the meeting, hopefully in August of this year. The resultant DVD will be used, hopefully, to persuade the White House to invite James Roberts, the actor, to do it on the 150th anniversary of the event. Bat Masterson is coming

Come the spring of 2011, Proofmark Cinema will be traveling to Austin, Texas to shoot Zone of Fire, a historical documentary video based on Bat Masterson's memoir Gunfighters of the Western Frontier. Volunteers are sought to play townies and cowboys in the background; lunch and water will be provided, along with a copy of the DVD; glory is provided free, but we'll be sharing in any eventual (if the History Channel can be interested in it) profits on a co-op basis.

Four Hand Draw

It’s early December of 1883. Six men ride into the small town of Flat Rock, Texas. Relying on the newly-issued railroad schedule, they’ve come to rob the eastbound train, loaded with gold from the mines in California and Colorado. They all carry firearms typical of the era, along with the knives, derringers, and pocket pistols carried by desperate men. It’s cold outside, but there’s a fire in the saloon, along with whiskey and beef and beans. Being who they are, of course, they keep their gunbelts on. Lighting the lantern, they sit down to play some poker. Before the sun goes down they will need to fuse some dynamite and prepare for the train but, before that, things will go badly for one of them.

This movie was shot entirely on authentic period locations, entirely in Philadelphia, entirely in one day. All clothing, props, and firearms were originals or period-authentic reproductions. Shot in HD using a Sony camera, edited on Apple Macintosh computers using iMovie.
